Angus Legends Volume I

The Greatest Bulls of Angus History

by Tom Burke, Kurt Schaff and Rance Long

A square cover bears a white background and black text. The title, 'Angus Legends' is proportional and fits the top half of the cover. A nice fantasy font has been used. 'Volume 1' is attached to the bottom of the title, about an eighth of the title font size. 'The Greatest Bulls of Angus History' is italicized, horizontally centered, sitting in the bottom third of the cover. A generous white space leaves the authors in the bottom fourth of the cover, half the font size of the subtitle, proclaiming 'By Tom Burke, Kurt Schaff and Rance Long' in a single, elegant line.Limited copies of this new one-of-a-kind book are available exclusively through the American Angus Auxiliary with the American Angus Hall of Fame donating a portion of the proceeds to the American Angus Auxiliary Scholarship Fund.

Angus Legends Volume I is the first book ever to compile the all-time greatest bulls of the breed. Emphasizing historical and ancestral importance based on all eras, The 165 Most Influential Bulls of Angus History commemorates the 165th birthday of the legendary foundation sire, Grey Breasted Jock, from which all the others descend. These bulls, and the generations of breeders responsible for their ancestries, have helped establish the Angus breed as the number one beef breed in the world. Also featured are 35 promising younger bulls. These landmark bulls have left an ongoing influence on breed progress and have shaped the direction of the industry, influencing breed type, selection and value while passing their genetics to countless descendants. Each bull is accompanied by his photo, pedigree, footnote information and complete sire and dam lineages which are traced to their earliest recorded roots, and list the names, registration numbers, birth dates, breeders and parents of each generation.

The Angus Paternal Lineage Tree illustrates the paternal relationships of more than 2,800 bulls through 165 years and more than 40 generations. Each bull traces to Grey Breasted Jock, the oldest and first bull featured in this book. This one-of-a-kind tree diagrams the breed’s sire lines in a concise form. The yearly top ten sires for registrations are listed along with the breed’s most dominant champions. A chapter focuses on the early development of the breed and reviews the evolution of sire selection criteria, trends and technology. These timeless stories continue to inspire breeders in creating new generations of Angus legends.

This 500-page hardcover book is authored by Tom Burke, Kurt Schaff and Rance Long, each third-generation Angus breeders with more than 150 years of combined Angus heritage.
